New Year's Message
This is sort of like the speech the Queen gives at the end of the year - but hers is probably funnier, and this just relates to the development of the creative community now known as Quinta Linda.
I thought it might be about time I wrote to you all to tell you about the many changes and ( hopefully ) improvements going on, the most notable being the new name and design, this probably requires a short explanation:
Green Media was formed in Ibiza, in 2008 around a simple idea of planet-friendly media services, this is still a core value.
So, as this plan evolved and revealed itself, it became very obvious that website development was one of our most progressive elements - and so Web Editor was born.
Since February 2009 Murray Green and several other core Green Media members have drifted from the La Isla off to relaxed Portugal, where they have now established themselves on a new safe haven - Bem-vindo a Quinta Linda
Now Web Editor is an established product - a planet-friendly web-application for building and maintaining websites - as many of you who already use it know.
The Web Editor Tool has recently had a bottom-up re-write, which included the re-development of many existing features and the introduction of several new ones.
I know that some of you are already using many of the new features, but perhaps many others are still hidden, waiting to be found, to speed things up I'll give you a few clues.
- Auto-Saving while editing - as seen on Gmail - This background process should help to reduce lost content, as pages are saved as users type.
- Anti-Spamming - The GM NoBot works tirelessly, around the clock stopping spammers and hackers, this together with new extra security measures makes GM safer than ever.
- Technical Zone - One of many features in testing, this allows comprehensive control over all important technical features of client websites - such as the domain, emails, FTP accounts, error messages, event logging, IP Blacklisting and SEO redirections - all from one handy resource.
- Multiple Uploader - The photo gallery modules just got even easier to use, thanks to the new asymmetrical multiple file uploader - try it out.
The list goes on, clients and developers can now add YouTube Videos, embed .mp3 music, locate using Google Maps or sell online thanks to PayPal buttons, all via the Content Editor.
We have also improved the modules ( website plug-ins ) available and added a few new ones:
- Photo Galleries - Can now be used with either version of the fabulous lightbox viewer, almost any existing web page may now be converted to a photo gallery and galleries can also be moved from one page to another within the client website.
- Lingo - Websites using Web Editor are currently being published in 6 languages - English, Spanish, German, French, Dutch & Catalan - and we're experimenting with the addition of Japanese.
- New Adverts - Currently in testing, this allows either the simple addition of Google Ad-Sense, or for custom made links to external websites, using either images of plain text.
- New Files - A single resource to manage and upload files, including the new multi-uploader.
Web Editor has been busy over the past year, and is now being used to maintain the following website:
- Greenheart Ibiza - including Casita Verde, Greenheart Guide, Resonancia, Green Ibiza Tours - ( GHMusic coming soon... )
- Emanuel Kuntzelman
- Soulforce Project
- Dews Marine
- Fundación por el Futuro

There are many other sites in production now and several clients who have become developers, using the knowledge they have gained building their own website to help others.
The future of Web Editor lies in the hands of these developers and with this in mind we have focused much of our energy on the development of an API system - which allows developers to create fully customised website design templates which are powered by Web Editor - technically called skinning.
Our next major focus will be an extension to our web-based systems - Web Editor already has a basic online code development system, which allows developers to edit and create custom templates entriely from the browser, this moved away from locally installed applications reflects perfectly our vision of the future of computing.
