Based in Ely, Fen Paddle Company is the UK pioneer of Inland Standup Paddleboarding and balance-orientated sports. Set up in 2009 by watersports enthusiast and instructor Roland Gurner, the company has used East Anglia's unique natural features to make the area the sport's UK centre of excellence.
And its innovative approach to the sport is set to make it a mainstream leisure activity for everyone from keen sports people to families and friends looking for a different way to keep fit.
Businesses are also fast catching on it as a way of team-building and helping staff keep fit using balance-orientated sports for motivation, team building, fitness and health and wellbeing in the workplace.
100% self-funded this business brings in thousands of valuable tourists to the region, helping other tourism businesses along the way. It achieved fantastic media coverage in 2009 and is working closely with one of the region’s largest charities (EACH) to raise vital funds and awareness via a public tournament.
